Pitt took it right to Syracuse. Beat them soundly early, and never let them get close after the 1st quarter. At 45-14, with 4 turnovers forced, control of the clock and nearly 400 yards of total offense. In the box score the only negative continues to be penalties. Pitt committed 10 for 99 yards. That still is a big problem for a team that does not rely on being overly aggressive and attacking.

This was actually more dominating a win for Pitt than over Maine or FIU. Both of which seemed more like superior size and strength wearing the other side down over 4 quarters. This one was about superior talent just taking the other team out right in the first half.

Arthur E. Brown Jr., chairman of the commission for the Technical College of the Lowcountry, will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs on Friday. The honor is the school’s most prestigious award and recognizes individuals whose professional accomplishments bring honor to the school and inspire students. Only 32 of 7,000 alumni have received the designation. Brown, a Hilton Head Island resident, has been a member of the TCL Commission since 1997 and served as chairman of the TCL Foundation. His 36-year career in the U.S. Army culminated in the rank of four-star general and an appointment to vice chief of staff of the Army.

It is time to get your Pitt football jerseys out of the closet. It is time to find your blue and gold beads. And it is definitely time to get ready to cheer, run around until the flow of energy is better. In other words, it is time to start hang out with the Pitt Club of the Lowcountry, again.

In its opening game of the season, Pitt travels to Utah. The last time these two teams met in 2004–it was not pretty for the Panthers. The game starts at 8:30 pm. It will be broadcast on versus.

The Pitt Club will gather at Hilton Head Brew Pub. There is a new chef and a new menu. There are also tvs outside on the back patio. I am anxious to try out the improvements. I hope you are as well.

Those of us gathered at the Hilton Head Brew Pub were clearly disappointed, I am proud that the players did so well. Jamie Dixon really is an amazing coach. Pitt, however, had a much better season than was expected. They were expected to finish 9th in the Big East and instead tied for 2nd. The players will mature and do well next year. As the lovely Shelia Mills texted me, ” football season starts on September 2nd against Utah!”

Pitt is hoping to rebound from the drubbing they took against Notre Dame. Pitt will take on St. John’s today at noon at Madison Square Garden.

Madison Square Garden is Pitt’s home away from home. Since the 2000-01 season, Pitt has won two Big East Tournament titles, appeared in seven of the last nine Big East Tournament title games and amassed a 23-10 overall record in the arena. It has played 33 games there since the 2000-01 season. Pitt appeared in the country’s first-ever nationally televised basketball game at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 28, 1940, a 57-37 win at Fordham. Pitt also has three New York area players on its roster: point guard Travon Woodall (Brooklyn), freshman center Dante Taylor (Greenburgh) and sophomore guard Ashton Gibbs (Scotch Plains, N.J.). Head Coach Jamie Dixon was born in New York City and spent time living in the city as a child. Assistant Coach Brandin Knight guided Pitt to the 2003 Big East Tournament title there and video coordinator Rasheen Davis is a Bronx, native.
