The Pitt men’s basketball team continues to ascend in the nation’s polls. The Panthers (15-2, 5-0) are No. 9 in the Associated Press poll that was released today. They are No. 11 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches’ poll.

Pitt, coming off a thrilling 82-77 overtime victory against Louisville, has won eight consecutive games, including the first five games in Big East Conference play. Pitt and No. 4 Villanova are the only two teams in the Big East without a loss in league play.

This is the ninth consecutive season that Pitt has cracked the top 10 of the AP poll. The Panthers started the season unranked and made their season debut in the AP poll two weeks ago.

Pitt plays No. 12 Georgetown Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center.

We will be at the Hilton Head Brewing Company for the game. See you there.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

The undefeated in conference play streak continues. What a tough down to the last minute OT win over Louisville. The Panthers had a number of turnovers and were the victim of poor officiating. The Panthers were down 5 points with 54 seconds left in regulation. Wanamaker made a 3-pointer from the corner with 15 second left and then both of his foul shots with 1.9 second left in regulation. (There was also a really poor 3-point shot taken by Gibbs with 3 second left in regulation. I want apologize to Mike McElhinney for permanently damaging his hearing upon seeing such a shot taken. And Gibbs made a 3 in OT). Nasir Robinson scored a career-high 26 points and No. 16 Pittsburgh staged a frantic rally in the final minute of regulation to force overtime, then avoided a third consecutive home loss to Louisville by winning 82-77 on Saturday.

Thankfully, Louisville was not making their foul shots down the stretch. The Panthers were more dominate in OT and were leading by 5.  Gibbs had five points in OT. Louisville hung in there hitting two 3-pointers, but ultimately Pitt was too tough. Louisville had defeated Pitt on the prior two meetings at the Pete.

The Panthers are now unexpected 5-0 in conference play. Next up is #11Georgetown on Wednesday Night (January 20th) at 7 p.m.  The Panthers will be playing the Hoyas at the Pete.

We will be meeting at the Hilton Head Brew Pub to cheer on our Panthers!!

Hail to Pitt!!!
