Pitt begins Big East play 0
Our Panthers will open the Big East basketball season tonight with a home matchup against DePaul. The Panthers (10-2) will be televised on ESPNU, so if you’d like to join us, come out to the Hilton Head Brewing Co. at 7 p.m. to enjoy the game.
Here’s the athletics department’s preview of the game. Some cool notes to see:
- Pitt begins Big East play against DePaul after winning 10 non-conference games for the ninth consecutive season.
- Pitt is finally at full health. Jermaine Dixon (injury) and Gilbert Brown (academic suspension) are both back with the team.
- Pitt is in its eighth season in The Pete and carries a 123-10 overall record (.925 winning percentage) and 49-9 record vs. Big East opponents in the arena.
- Pitt has won 29 straight home games, a streak which ranks as the nation’s second longest current win streak (Kansas, 49). It also ranks second among the school’s all-time longest home win streaks.
- A win vs. DePaul would place head coach Jamie Dixon into a second place tie on Pitt’s all-time coaching victories list with 174.
Also, the Panthers obviously won the Car Care Bowl on Dec. 26. We had some members attend the game, so hopefully we can get some pictures and write up a separate post later.
